Begue's Restaurant stands on a corner in the French Quarter, a two-story brick building with a deep gallery of slender columns wrapping both street fronts, dormer windows and tall chimneys above, and a horse-drawn wagon at the curb. Elizabeth Kettenring Begue, a German-born cook known as Madame Begue, ran the restaurant; her late-morning second breakfasts drew locals and visitors in the 1880s and 1890s. She died in 1906, and the building at Bourbon and Conti Streets continued as a restaurant under other names.
