About this postcard
A corner view of Begue's Restaurant, a two-story brick building with a deep gallery of slender columns wrapping both street fronts, dormer windows and tall chimneys above, and a horse-drawn wagon standing at the curb. The restaurant was kept by Elizabeth Kettenring Begue, a German-born Creole cook whose lavish late-morning 'second breakfasts' made the French Quarter establishment famous in the 1880s and 1890s; she died in 1906. The corner building at Bourbon and Conti Streets later continued in restaurant use under other names.
