About this postcard

A quiet stretch of the Bellamy River near Dover, New Hampshire, seen between tall pines and dense deciduous trees, with boulders breaking the shallow water and a large frame building — apparently a mill — standing at the bend in the distance. The Bellamy River rises in Strafford County and empties into the Piscataqua estuary below Dover, and its falls and banks supported saw and grist mills from the seventeenth century onward. The view is typical of the tinted river-and-mill scenes issued for New Hampshire towns in the early twentieth century.
