About this postcard
Aerial view of the sprawling white Belleview Biltmore Hotel and its outbuildings, set among lawns, winding drives and flowering trees on a bluff above the blue waters of Clearwater Bay, with a long green point of land stretching out at right. The Belleview Biltmore opened in 1897 as a winter resort built by railroad and hotel magnate Henry B. Plant, and its rambling Shingle Style wooden structure was long cited as the largest occupied wooden building in the world. It closed in 2009 and, after years of preservation battles, most of it was demolished in 2015.
