About this postcard
The card shows the steep red-rock walls of Big Thompson Canyon in Colorado, with the Big Thompson River and a bridge in the foreground, captioned as the "Big Thompson Canyon Route, Rocky Mountain National (Estes) Park. Reached via Union Pacific System." The canyon forms a dramatic gateway between the Colorado plains and Estes Park, and in the early 20th century the Union Pacific promoted its branch line through the gorge as the scenic approach to Rocky Mountain National Park. The white-bordered color card served as an advertisement for that railroad route to the park.
