Bingham Falls cascades over dark rock ledges in Smugglers Notch, a narrow pass in Vermont's Green Mountains. The notch runs between Mount Mansfield and Sterling Mountain and takes its name from goods smuggled through the pass during the Embargo Act of 1807. Bingham Falls, near Stowe, is one of the noted cascades in the notch. The sender's message follows a New England itinerary, with stops at the Old Man of the Mountain and the Flume and a report that the scenery was just grand.
