Birch trees beside a woodland pond, 1914

About this postcard

In a sepia-toned view, slender white-barked birches crowd the right bank and a smaller grove stands at left, framing a still pond that reflects a pale, cloud-streaked sky. A small signature sits at the lower left. The scene is a generic pastoral landscape, the kind of quiet view often issued as a pictorial postcard in the 1910s. The card carries a short note from T. Wilson to Mrs Sebevorce at Richmond Hill, Long Island, expressing sorrow that she has been sick and hope that the change has made her stronger. The note gives the generic scene a personal use: a get-well message postmarked Brooklyn in 1914.
