About this postcard

An elevated view looks down on Monument Circle, the traffic circle at the heart of downtown Indianapolis, with the tall shaft of the Soldiers' and Sailors Monument rising from its landscaped center amid curving drives and surrounding commercial blocks. The Indiana State Soldiers' and Sailors Monument, designed by German architect Bruno Schmitz and completed in 1901, stands about 284 feet tall and commemorates Hoosiers who served in the Civil War and earlier conflicts. The dense brick and stone office buildings and hotels ringing the circle reflect the city's early twentieth-century downtown.
