About this postcard
An elevated, retouched view looks down a wide street into Morgan Square, the historic center of Spartanburg, South Carolina, where a monument column stands in a small island of lawn ringed by parked cars. Multi-story brick and white-stucco commercial blocks line the street, with a tall light-colored building at left and a large water tank on the right horizon. Morgan Square takes its name from Daniel Morgan, the Revolutionary War general who won the Battle of Cowpens nearby in 1781; the square served as Spartanburg's downtown market and gathering place through the 20th century.
