About this postcard
An elevated view looks down a broad street into Morgan Square, the historic center of Spartanburg, South Carolina. A monument column stands on a small lawn island surrounded by parked cars, while multi-story brick and white-stucco commercial blocks line the street; a tall light-colored building rises at left and a large water tank sits on the right horizon. The square takes its name from Daniel Morgan, the Revolutionary War general who won the Battle of Cowpens nearby in 1781. It served as Spartanburg's downtown market and gathering place at the heart of the business district through the 20th century.
