Bird's eye view, Oklahoma City, OK, 1909

About this postcard

An elevated view over the rooftops and commercial blocks of downtown Oklahoma City, looking down a broad street lined with multi-story brick buildings, awnings, and scattered pedestrians. Church spires and a taller block rise on the horizon. Oklahoma City was founded in the Land Run of 1889 and grew quickly into the commercial center of the newly settled territory. The view captures the downtown in its early capital years, after Oklahoma achieved statehood in 1907, when such bird's-eye cards served as popular souvenirs of a young city filling out its grid.
