An elevated view over Salt Lake City, with the six-spired Salt Lake Temple and the Tabernacle rising above trees at right, red-brick houses and orchards in the foreground, and the snow-capped Wasatch Range along the horizon. The city lies on the southern slope of a Wasatch spur at about 4,500 feet. Mormon pioneers led by Brigham Young entered the valley in July 1847, and the temple, completed in 1893, and the Tabernacle had become the city's defining landmarks by the time this view was printed.
