About this postcard
The illustration shows five small birds, blue-and-yellow tits or chickadees with reddish-breasted robins, clustered on a snow-dusted, broken branch against a pale blue winter sky. The greeting "Hearty Christmas Wishes" appears in decorative Art Nouveau lettering at upper left. Bird-and-bough designs were common on holiday postcards of the period, when German and American lithographers mass-produced Christmas greetings for the mail. By the early 1900s, a Christmas postcard was a cheap and popular way to send holiday wishes across town or country.
