About this postcard

A bouquet of pansies and lily of the valley is arranged over a small rectangular panel of warm orange-brown, with "Birthday Greetings" printed in glittery black lettering across the lower left. The pansy was a common motif on greeting cards, linked to remembrance and affectionate thoughts, and floral birthday cards of this kind were a staple of the early twentieth-century postcard boom, when inexpensive lithographed cards were exchanged for birthdays, holidays and everyday correspondence. This example was sent to Red Hill, Pennsylvania, and carries a brief message from Mother.
