A large pink-and-red rose in full bloom and a red rosebud appear among dark green leaves and fern-like sprigs on a pale vertically striped ground. Above them the printed greeting reads "BIRTHDAY GREETINGS." The inscription to "grand pa from The Campbells" turns the floral design into a family birthday wish. Roses were a common motif on greeting postcards of the period, and sending a decorated card was a simple way to remember a birthday, especially for relatives at a distance.
