About this postcard

A small stone and clapboard house with a columned porch stands behind a wooden rail fence, shaded by trees, with an inset medallion at upper right showing an equestrian statue of a mounted officer. The caption identifies it as the birthplace of Confederate General Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson in Clarksburg, in what is now West Virginia. Jackson, born here in 1824, became one of the most celebrated Confederate commanders of the Civil War before his death at Chancellorsville in 1863; the equestrian statue shown in the inset is the one erected on the courthouse grounds in Clarksburg.
