The house stands behind a wooden rail fence, shaded by trees, with a columned porch across the front and an inset medallion at upper right showing Jackson on horseback. The caption identifies it as the birthplace of Thomas J. 'Stonewall' Jackson in Clarksburg, then in western Virginia and now West Virginia. Jackson was born here on January 21, 1824, and became a Confederate lieutenant general before his death in 1863 from wounds received at Chancellorsville.
