About this postcard

A view across open fields toward the small town of Bishop, California, with scattered houses, a church spire and rows of tall trees, and the snow-covered Sierra Nevada crest — including Mount Tom — rising behind. Bishop sits in the Owens Valley of Inyo County, a ranching and farming community settled in the 1860s and named for Samuel A. Bishop, whose cattle ranch once occupied the site. Mount Tom, the prominent 13,600-foot peak to the west, is one of the easternmost summits of the Sierra Nevada and a landmark of the valley.
