About this postcard

A small town of low, dark-roofed houses and a church spire sits on a flat green plain, backed by a screen of tall poplars and cottonwoods, with the snow-streaked mass of Mount Tom rising across the horizon. The caption names the scene as Bishop, California, with Mt. Tom in the distance. Bishop lies in the Owens Valley of Inyo County, a ranching and orchard settlement that became a well-known stop on the Los Angeles Aqueduct story and the eastern gateway to the Sierra Nevada; Mount Tom, over 13,000 feet high, forms the valley's western wall.
