Bishops Cap rises as a rock pinnacle above a road that curves around its base, with a stone retaining wall holding the grade. The Columbia River and forested hills fill the background. The Columbia River Highway, built through the gorge in the 1910s, was promoted as a scenic drive, and its masonry walls and graded curves were designed to fit the route to the landscape.
