About this postcard
A group of nine African American adults and children, one holding a small white dog, are posed in front of and in the window of a weathered, unpainted clapboard cabin raised on short posts, with a large iron wash pot in the foreground. The card's own caption, "De ole Folks at Home," places the scene in the dialect genre of "old plantation" imagery widely sold in the early 20th century, a sentimentalized and stereotyped view of Southern Black rural life rather than a documentary record. The handwritten date and place on the front indicate the card was inscribed in Atlanta in November 1908.
