Bluffs on Lake Taneycomo, Branson, MO, 1928

About this postcard

Flat-topped limestone ledges and scattered cedars on a bluff above Lake Taneycomo, with wooded Ozark hills rising across the water. The lake was formed in 1913 when Powersite Dam closed on the White River and was named for Taney County; through the 1920s the shoreline around Branson drew summer visitors from Missouri and beyond, and the town's location below the dam made it a natural stopping point for Ozark travel. The sender wrote only that the scene was "typical" of the country, a short line to a recipient in Milaca, Minnesota, in the middle of a July.

This is typical of the scenery in the Ozarks. I may be home in about a month. Love, Bernie.
