The view from Curley's Hotel takes in a crowded stretch of sand and boardwalk, with bathers, walkers, utility poles, and early automobiles parked along the rail. Rockaway Park was one of the Rockaway Peninsula's seaside resorts, connected to New York City by rail and trolley, and its boardwalk drew summer crowds for bathing and promenading. Mae Duggan wrote to a friend in Walton, New York, that she was having a wonderful time and wished the friend could join her.
