About this postcard
A crowded general view of the Ocean City boardwalk, with strollers in summer dress and beachgoers scattered across the sand toward the surf; American flags fly from lamp posts along the walk and a long pavilion-like building lines the left side. Ocean City was laid out in 1879 as a dry, family-oriented resort on a barrier island south of Atlantic City, and its boardwalk became the center of summer activity. The linen-textured, brightly colored look of this card is typical of American postcards printed in the late 1930s through the 1940s.
