Rows of wooden rowboats and canoes are drawn up along the shore of a lagoon in Chicago's Lincoln Park, with one boat carrying people out on the water. Behind them stands the large boathouse, its red roof, white balconies, and red-and-white striped awning set against trees and a blue sky. Lincoln Park's lagoons were a popular setting for rowing and canoeing in the early 20th century, and the boathouse anchored that waterfront recreation.
