About this postcard

A halftone view across a broad, slow river toward a wooded far bank, with a small rowboat carrying several figures near the center and weathered stakes or a fish trap standing in the shallows in the foreground; overhanging branches frame the scene. The printed caption identifies the spot as associated with "University Girls" at Vermillion, South Dakota, home of the University of South Dakota, and the wide water is characteristic of the Missouri River, which runs along the town's southern edge. The card was published by R. Hoskins, a local Vermillion photographer and postcard publisher.
