About this postcard

The twin-towered Notre-Dame-de-Bonsecours church rises above Montreal's old harbor, its red-capped spire and central dome topped by a statue of the Virgin. The caption calls it the "Sailor's Church" and notes that it has overlooked the crowded wharves of Montreal Harbor for 300 years. In the foreground, a busy market and street scene with trucks, cars, and pedestrians fills the lower view. The chapel's waterfront setting made it a familiar landmark for sailors and dockworkers, and the surrounding old port district was a busy commercial quarter. The market traffic below places the church at the edge of that working waterfront.
