View across the water toward Boston Light, the white conical tower and its keeper's dwellings standing on the rocky tip of Little Brewster Island in Boston Harbor. Boston Light is the oldest lighthouse station in the United States, first established in 1716; the tower seen here dates from the 1783 rebuilding and was heightened in 1859. The station's fog signal building, oil house and keeper's quarters cluster around the tower on the bare granite ledges.
