About this postcard
A color view of the Boston & Maine Railroad depot in Waltham, Massachusetts, a long, low station building with a tall square brick clock tower. A wooden passenger car sits on the tracks at right, and several sets of rails sweep across the foreground; a few figures stand on the platform at left. Waltham was a busy manufacturing city, known in the period for its watch works, and the depot connected it to Boston and the wider New England rail network. The sender's note mentions a Hallowe'en party and a short trip into Boston, a small sign of how the railroad fit into ordinary travel and holiday plans.
