Boulder Dam under construction, Black Canyon, NV, circa 1933

Card type
Real photo

About this postcard

The view looks down from the control tower of a 150-ton cableway on the Nevada rim into Black Canyon, where Boulder Dam rises in stepped concrete blocks. Cableway towers and lines cross the canyon, with rocky walls and the Colorado River below the dam face. The dam was built between 1931 and 1936 as a Depression-era public works project, and the card uses the Boulder Dam name common before the structure was renamed Hoover Dam.
