About this postcard
A large, moss-and-lichen covered boulder of horizontally bedded rock dominates the view, with a figure in white standing in a shallow niche at its base and a man in dark coat and light trousers on the stone path beside it; beyond the trees a long white hotel with twin roof pavilions sits on the ridge, and blue mountain profiles fill the horizon. The caption names the formation Boulder Rock and the building as the Kaaterskill Hotel, one of the great mountain resort houses of the northern Catskills, which drew summer guests to Kaaterskill Park in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Such rock formations and overlooks were standard stops on the carriage and walking tours of the Catskill Mountain region.
