About this postcard
A wooden crate overflows with California oranges and orange blossoms under the printed lines "GREETINGS FROM CALIFORNIA" and "THE BOX of ORANGES I Promised YOU from CALIFORNIA." The card treats the fruit as a state souvenir, with a printed note on California's orange industry and the seedless Navel orange. Caroline and Norton wrote to Sis and family in Wisconsin that they wished the oranges could be real, having seen trees full of them. California's citrus growers packed and shipped oranges east, and fruit-crate labels and souvenir cards made the crop a familiar state symbol.
