Winslow Homer's Breezing Up (A Fair Wind) shows a small sailboat heeling in choppy green water, with a man at the tiller and three boys aboard; one boy wears a red shirt. A distant sailboat appears on the horizon under a cloudy sky. Homer painted the scene in the 1870s, and it became one of his best-known images of American coastal life, catching the boat's tilt and the crew's easy balance on a brisk day.
