Bridge across Lake Pontchartrain, New Orleans, LA, circa 1937

About this postcard

A long concrete highway bridge on piers curves out across the blue water of Lake Pontchartrain, with two small red-roofed toll or draw-tender houses at the near end. The sky fades from pale blue to a warm sunset band at the horizon. The printed caption promotes the crossing as the world's longest concrete highway bridge, five miles long and built at a cost of $5,500,000, carrying the Old Spanish Trail into New Orleans from the east.
