Bridgeport harbor from the elevator, Bridgeport, Connecticut, circa 1906

About this postcard

A view over Bridgeport, Connecticut's harbor, taken from the height of a grain elevator, showing a crowded basin of steam tugs and side-wheel steamboats moored along the wharves in the foreground while small sailboats and a long excursion steamer lie farther out. Beyond the water, low factory buildings with a tall smokestack and tree-covered shoreline mark the harbor's edge. Bridgeport was in these years a busy industrial port on Long Island Sound, home to the Locomobile and other works, and its harbor carried coal, freight and excursion traffic.
