About this postcard
A view north along Broad Street in Newark, New Jersey, taken from the corner of William Street. Tall commercial blocks with awnings and shop signs line the left side of the street, a streetcar and horse-drawn wagons share the wide roadway, and a church spire rises on the right, with a large towered public building closing the vista. By the early 20th century Broad Street was Newark's principal retail and business thoroughfare, and the city was one of the nation's leading industrial centers.
