About this postcard
The view looks south down Broadway from Sixth Street in downtown Los Angeles at night. Neon signs for Hollenbeck, Woolworth, Loew's, Swallen, and other businesses line the street, with automobiles in the foreground. By the 1950s Broadway was still the city's main commercial and entertainment corridor, dense with movie palaces, department stores, shops, and cafes. The printed caption calls the street "aglow with brilliant lights" and notes the shops, theatres, and cafes that drew visitors to the Southland. The card was mailed from Pasadena the next day, after the sender had spent New Year's Day waiting along the parade route.
