The card shows Broadway looking south from Sixth Street in downtown Los Angeles at night, with neon signs for Hollenbeck, Woolworth, Loew's, Swallen, and other businesses lining the street and 1940s automobiles in the foreground. By the 1940s Broadway was Los Angeles's principal commercial and entertainment thoroughfare, dense with movie palaces, department stores, and brightly lit shopfronts. This linen-era view captures that retail corridor at its mid-century peak.

Dear Jeanne
It is now [illegible]
We have been standing
on the street along the
line of parade since
6:30 P.M. We're on the
shady side of the street
it's quite cold. The
parade is supposed to
start at 10 o'clock
We're in the 2nd row so can
see pretty good.
Love - Pat
