About this postcard
The picture shows the Brook Room of the Brookdale Lodge, a dining room built among towering redwoods with a natural creek running through it, crossed by a small wooden bridge and tumbling over a waterfall beside the tables. Ferns, ivy and flowers crowd the banks, and a round mirror hangs on the wood-paneled wall above the bridge. The lodge, in the Santa Cruz Mountains of California, grew from an 1880s resort into a well-known mountain inn whose Brook Room was its signature attraction, with diners seated along the stream that flows through the building.
