The picture shows the fenced grave of William F. Cody — Buffalo Bill — on the crest of Lookout Mountain, with an American flag on a pole above the white picket enclosure and a few visitors standing on the rocky, flower-dotted ground around it. Cody died in Denver in January 1917 and was buried on Lookout Mountain west of the city, a site administered within the Denver Mountain Parks system. The grave became a popular roadside attraction, and the Buffalo Bill Museum was later built beside it.
