About this postcard

The Bunker Hill Monument, a tall granite obelisk, rises against a sky with blue and pink clouds. A grassy lawn and surrounding buildings sit at its base, and a few small figures on the lawn give a sense of its height. The monument stands in Charlestown, now part of Boston, and commemorates the June 1775 Battle of Bunker Hill. Its cornerstone was laid by Lafayette in 1825, Daniel Webster delivered an oration at the ceremony, and the work was completed in 1843. The 220-foot shaft has 295 steps to the top, where small windows open onto a wide view of the surrounding scenery.
