The Bunker Hill Monument obelisk rises above low surrounding buildings, lawns, and curving walkways in Charlestown, Massachusetts. The granite monument commemorates the June 17, 1775, Battle of Bunker Hill and was completed in 1843. In the early 1900s, Charlestown had been part of Boston for more than three decades, and the monument remained a neighborhood landmark.
