About this postcard

A bird's-eye view over the rooftops of downtown St. Louis, with a large arcaded office block in the foreground and taller commercial buildings rising behind it; the card labels the scene simply "Business District." and "St. Louis." The windows of the buildings have been hand-tinted in bright yellow, red and blue, a common novelty treatment on early twentieth-century view cards. St. Louis was by 1906 one of the largest commercial centers of the Mississippi Valley, its wholesale and office district clustered near the riverfront.
