About this postcard

A busy market morning on Broad Street in Augusta, Georgia, with horse- and mule-drawn wagons, carts loaded with produce and barrels, and pedestrians crowding the wide dirt thoroughfare beneath large shade trees. Broad Street was Augusta's commercial spine, and its curb market drew farmers and vendors from the surrounding Georgia and South Carolina countryside. Multi-story brick storefronts with awnings and a cast-iron balcony line the right side of the street, while trolley poles and utility lines recede toward the horizon.
