The Chicago, Burlington & Quincy's steel truss bridge crosses the Mississippi River at Burlington, Iowa, viewed from a wooded bluff on the Iowa shore. The railroad first spanned the river here in 1868, and the crossing in view is a later steel replacement of that pioneer bridge. Burlington was a busy river town and a C.B.&Q. division point, where the line's main stem out of Chicago met Mississippi River traffic.
