Cabinet Gorge in North Idaho, circa 1915

About this postcard

The view looks down the rock walls of Cabinet Gorge, where the Clark Fork River runs dark and narrow between steep cliffs. Conifer forest covers the slopes, snow remains on the higher ridges, and a single pine stands in the right foreground. The message ties the scene to a family fishing trip ten miles back in the hills and adds a local observation that in warm weather the fish go deep and do not notice a person calling. Cabinet Gorge is a steep canyon of the Clark Fork in Idaho's Panhandle, near the Montana line; the river ran free here before Cabinet Gorge Dam was built in the early 1950s.

This is where Dad fished one day - 10 miles back in the Mts - Marion + I went along - Pretty good road - When it is warm the fish go way down to the bottom & don't know you are calling on them -
