About this postcard

Cadillac Square in Detroit, seen across an open plaza toward the clock tower of the 1871 City Hall. Commercial blocks line the square, a streetcar runs at the right, and horse-drawn wagons and pedestrians cross the pavement. The square takes its name from Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac, the city's founder, and formed part of Detroit's civic center. Electric streetcars were a common sight in downtown Detroit by 1906, sharing the square with horse-drawn wagons. The Second Empire City Hall, designed by James Anderson, stood until its demolition in 1961.
