About this postcard
A tinted view of Cadillac Square in Detroit, looking across the open plaza toward the tall clock tower of the city's 1871 City Hall, with commercial blocks flanking the square, a streetcar at right, and horse-drawn wagons and pedestrians crossing the pavement. Cadillac Square occupies part of the old Detroit civic center laid out in the early 19th century and takes its name from the city's founder, Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac. The Second Empire City Hall seen in the background, designed by James Anderson, served the city until it was demolished in 1961.
