About this postcard
A framed view of the California State Capitol's white colonnaded drum and gold-tipped green dome, seen past a foreground screen of pink-flowering oleander and dark trees across a green lawn. The present Neoclassical capitol, designed by M. Frederic Butler and modeled on the U.S. Capitol, was completed in 1874 and restored in the 1970s–80s; its dome was gilded in the early 20th century. The surrounding grounds are a landscaped park with palms and flowering shrubs.
