About this postcard

The California Tower rises above the trees of Balboa Park, with an ornate arched gateway visible at the lower left of the view. The tower was designed by Bertram Goodhue in Spanish Colonial Revival style for the 1915 Panama-California Exposition and stands about 200 feet tall, housing a carillon; the arch below is part of the exposition's surviving entrance ensemble. The card's bright, hand-tinted coloring and textured stock are typical of the linen era.
